This November 1st marked 3 things for me...kannada rajyotsava, kerala piravi and my 12th work anniversary...infact every Nov 1st since 2016 were all of the above but it struck me only this time. When my parents were seeking alliances for their "well behaved and beautiful banker" daughter the only condition I had was a Palakkadan boy working in Bengaluru. The thaalikettu for me was an entry pass to the garden city. My husband always quotes the dialogue from the Malayalam movie Bangalore days " To go to bangalore you need not marry. You can just get a bus ticket" hehe jokes apart... I was just thinking how life changed after Bengaluru. Post marriage when we moved to Bengaluru, the city welcomed us with open arms. I did not even miss kerala because almost 1/3rd of random people I bumped into in the bank, malls or road asked the same question " naatil evdaya?" . Six years down the line nothing much changed except that I ask the question " oota aytha?" I sometimes miss my 'puttu kadala' but I always enjoy " mudde sambar". I love wearing the kasavu mundu so do I adorn the Mysore silk. I keep chanting "swamiye saranam ayyappa" but I cannot miss visiting magadi ranganathswamy. I miss the Kerala rains but I also love the misty blore mornings.
A state that became home away from home for me, that accepted me with all my insanity , that accommodated me with all my insatiable demands. It's a place that taught me to live so it's a place I would die for!
Where we built our first home, welcomed our first child, where we learnt the art of patience in never ending traffic, where we learnt to coexist with people from all corners of India.... the list goes on. That's what this kannada rajyothsava means to me and I'm so glad that my home state and my "home away from home" state share the same birthday.
And as the saying goes home is where the heart is.. and dear kannada Nadu -You ve stolen my heart!
"Karnatakakke Jayavagali!"
